About
Boonanan's research interest focuses upon upgrading processes in participatory slum upgrading and communtiy-driven development programs in developing countries. His research direction is to employ an architectural and ethnographic approarch to investigate physical, social and political empowerment outcomes in low-income communities. His hypothesis is that participatory upgrading processes are contextual and dynamic influenced by mcaro- and micro-level factors. Nuanced understanding of dynamics of upgrading processes with respect to social and cultural dimensions in a particular context would be useful to undertake participatory processes more sensitively.
