Thesis Title: Inheriting Sustainability: World Heritage Enlistment, Complex Adaptive Systems and the Design of Tourism Development in Small Oceanic Islands

Presently residing in Lund (Sweden) as a visiting researcher at the Lunds Universitet (Lund University Centre of Excellence for Integration of Social and Natural Dimensions of Sustainability - LUCID), Leonardo is a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) candidate at the University of Melbourne (Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning) in Australia. Leonardo holds a Bachelor degree in Tourism (2002) as well as a Masters by coursework degree in Tourism and Hospitality Marketing Management (2004) both by the School of Arts and Communication (ECA) of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil.

In order to pursue his studies in Australia, he is currently on leave from his position as a tenured lecturer of the Tourism Management Program of the Brazilian Federal Institute for Education, Science and Technology in São Paulo (Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de São Paulo - IFSP), where he is responsible for subjects in the areas of tourism destination development and marketing planning.

Both academically as well as a consultant, he has been part of a wide range of tourism development and marketing projects for the public and the private sectors. His research investigates implementation models of tourism sustainability in its broad dimensions.
